This formula can to helps us to extract the Excel file location, name & sheet name of any active saved workbook.

In order to use the below formulas Excel for mac and windows, you must first save your workbook, incase if you use this formula without saving then the first formula will return blank, and rest will give #VALUE error.

You can easily copy the formula simply by clicking on the copy box and paste it into your workbook.

1. Get workbook location, workbook name along with active worksheet name

=CELL("filename",A1)

2. Get workbook location

=LEFT(CELL("filename",A1),FIND("[",CELL("filename",A1))-1)

3. Get workbook location and workbook name

=SUBSTITUTE(LEFT(CELL("filename",A1),FIND("]",CELL("filename",A1))-1),"[","")
